Inscription, introduced in Wrath of the Lich King was a real boon for enchanters. The vellums they make saved enchanters a lot of time and effort.
Before this, after gathering your materials, it was a case of spamming the trade channel to sell you wares directly to other characters using the personal trade GUI. This could take hours, and seriously detracted from game play.
But Inscription, and more specifically “vellums” changed all this. You could enchant the vellum directly, and it would store it until it was required. Therefore meaning that you could market your wares like any other profession using the “media” of vellums. More changes as Enchanting and other professions reach level 525 Illustrious should be expected.
Because of this, it might seem that inscription would make an ideal co-profession for enchanters. And while this does seem to offer benefits, levelling up your first character with two crafting professions can be a very expensive and time consuming process.. Perhaps best left for an alt once your main character can bankroll the process.
Be warned though. Two crafting professions is a very (very) expensive way to play. I really don’t recommend it as a route for your first character. Perhaps roll an alt once you have a wealthy “main” to bankroll you.
OK, so once you are ready to sell, I would advise analysing the auction house to see which enchants are currently in short supply, and of course which are overstocked.
I would then compare this to see what materials I have in my own bank to see what I should make. Taking into account that some reagents that might be on for a bargain price at the auction house.
I have, in the past, been able to buy nearly all the items I need to make my ‘chant, and sell at a healthy profit. But most of the time I need to farm or source some things for myself.
A character with two gathering professions is a boon here. Sending them out to get the items I lack. Perhaps an instance run for a rare reagent etc. If you have alts remember to level them up also. Ideally all professions, not just Enchanting, need to be level 525 Illustrious.
Of course, disenchanting high level blues – or even epic purples – is still the main source for your needs. So making friends with a blacksmith, leather worker or tailor is sometimes a good move. You provide them with some or all of the materials they need to make item to level their profession, then they give the item to you to disenchant to level yours or make enchants.
Does this sound harder than most professions? Well it probably is, but it also one of the most rewarding and profitable ways to play, especially end game. I wish you good luck on getting to Enchanting 525 Illustrious.
